We specialise in children and family photography, both at home and on location. We prefer to avoid the clinical studio environment and will shoot your family in a much more natural setting. Indoors or outdoors, we will shoot a mixture of candid and posed photographs to capture your family as you interact with one another – the love, fun, laughter and the genuine expressions of your children that will only be possible in an environment where they are comfortable and familiar.
We are commited to providing clients with a personal and very individual service. We don’t offer standard off-the-shelf poses or backdrops and we won’t ever have to rush out the door for the next session. We will accept a limited number of comissions each year and are dedicated to produce the very best in photographic art for your home. This means you can be assured of our personal attention and creative vision before, during and after your session.
SESSION FEE
£150 - includes a portrait shoot, private viewing/ordering session, plus 5 small desk portraits (or £125 equivalent value towards alternative products, wall portraits, albums etc). Our full range of products and prices are available here.
WHAT TO EXPECT
We will turn up at your home and spend a few minutes getting to know your family so the children are relaxed when we begin shooting. Please give us a tour of the house to help us find the best light and location for your shoot. We are not looking for stiff collars and perfect postures – just be yourselves, dress casually and comfortably and most importantly have fun together! If you just want photos of the kids, that’s fine, just let us know. We can certainly spend most of the session with the children but it’s fantastic to get the parents involved, at least for a handful of shots – just think how much you treasure your old family photos with your parents, and how much the family photos we shoot now will mean to your children when they grow up.
A change of location can be a great idea to offer more variety. Part of your session could take place in your local park, beach or any other favourite location. Maybe you want to start there and avoid the house altogether? We can accommodate most requests, just let us know when you phone up to book your portrait shoot.
PREPARATION BEFORE THE SHOOT
We don’t particularly ask for any preparation, although it can sometimes be helpful to have an idea how you’d like to present your images. We specialise in wall portraits and canvas wraps for the home, but also offer albums, print collections and desk portraits (perfect as gifts for relatives). If you are not exactly sure what you might prefer, we will be happy to discuss your options and offer advice when we arrives for your portrait shoot.
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
We are not normally deterred by the weather, especially when meeting at the house as it’s pretty easy to avoid rain altogether by staying indoors. Quite often the rain is intermittent which can give you chance to get outdoors, however if the weather is persistent and your children are brave, we will be quite happy to shoot outside. Kids in their wellies, splashing around in the puddles can actually make for some really great images.
AVAILABILITY
Children and family portrait sessions are available mon-fri. We can also arrange early-evening sessions during the lighter months between April and October. We travel throughout Cardiff and the South Wales. For portraits further afield please just ask about availability.
HOW TO ORDER
Approximately 2 weeks after your session, your images will be ready to order. We will arrange for you to attend an order session which will enable you to view our various presentation options and sizes most suitable for your wall space. Order sessions are available up until 7pm to fit around your work schedule. Order sessions normally take around 2hrs and we recommend, where possible, that clients arrange a babysitter for this process. Grandparents and relatives are always welcome to attend, however for those that live too far away, this is a fantastic opportunity to purchase them a selection of gift portraits.
PRICING AND REPEAT CLIENTS
As a photographer and artist there is nothing better than being asked to work for clients on a regular basis. With this in mind, it is not our aim to sell you a boatload of expensive frames that fill your house, because it’s likely you will feel ‘stuck’ with them in a couple of years when they need updating. Children change so quickly we would rather help you to invest in a smaller, more appropriate quantity of wall portraits and products which are sympathetic to your current home and lifestyle, followed by regular portrait sessions every couple of years as your children grow up. This enables you to add or update portraits as needed, and to really encourage this way of thinking, our wall portraits are mounted or framed in standard sizes so they can be easily swapped without having to purchase new frames each time.
